Have you looked at why the test is being killed? Would running it on a unit with more memory help?

The killing of the process is expected and unrelated, as that is triggered by the autopkgtest-reboot command:

```
bash: line 1: 3590 Killed /tmp/autopkgtest.rHe0t7/build.FHa/src/debian/tests/lockfs 2> >(tee -a /tmp/autopkgtest.rHe0t7/lockfs-stderr >&2) > >(tee -a /tmp/autopkgtest.rHe0t7/lockfs-stdout)
autopkgtest [08:34:18]: test process requested reboot with marker lockfs
```

The failure happens only after the test system was successfully rebooted, when executing "mount":
# mount -v -o remount,rw /overlay/ro
mount: /overlay/ro: cannot remount /dev/vda1 read-write, is write-protected.

I double checked that this is unrelated to memory constraints by executing a local baseline test with the "qemu --ram-size=8192 --cpus=4" parameters, failing as well.
