This does not seem to fix the linked bug and actually seems to break some things... I've tried with guitartools which has X-Ubuntu-Supported-Orientation=portrait in its .desktop file.
It still starts on the Main Stage in landscape. I can move it to the side stage which is correct, but when I then rotate the device to portrait it goes to the main stage (still correct) but then when rotating back to landscape, it stays in the main stage.
