Fixes: LP:1278503 (The cause was found during this cleanup work)
Look at commit individually to retain your sanity. One commit changes the indentation of the whole file. I'm sorry for combining white-space cleanup with code changes but the changes turned into a real beast and splitting the two would've been too time consuming.
