This repository hosts debian / ubuntu packages (the debian subdirectory) as well as code and settings files related to the creation / maintenance of debian / ubuntu packages.

Packages here are snapshots (usually corresponding to a revision) of the maintained elsewhere full package source trees. To build a package from these snapshots, use the following steps:

1. Get the upstream tarball indicated by the version part of the top-level package directory (the url will usually be at <pkg>/debian/watch).
2. Unpack the upstream tarball to the top-level package directory.
3. Apply all patches in debian/patches, using quilt.
4. Use dpkg-buildpackage or pbuilder or whatever tool you use on the filled with upstream code and patched top-level package directory (<pkg>).
